One of our flagship grassroots building projects is the development of Orford Park in Warrington and is scheduled as the replacement for Fordton Leisure Centre.
Heralded recently at the North West 2012 conference as a shining example of an Olympic legacy project, the £30m new build is an exciting regeneration initiative, which will provide community, sport, health and education facilities on a former landfill site between Winwick Road and Orford Park.
The project is led by Warrington Borough Council and managed by Leisure Warrington in partnership with TONP (The Orford Neighbourhood Project), Warrington Collegiate, Warrington Wolves, William Beamont High School, Warrington Disability Partnership, Network Warrington and the Warrington PCT.
Building work is well underway and the estimated completion date is March 2012 with its opening to the community in April 2012.
Duncan Richardson, who leads the projects, says "2012 is a real opportunity to get Warrington active. This new community sports village presents a real opportunity for our local neighbourhoods to be inspired by 2012 and invigorated to get active. We are very proud to be not only part of the 2012 legacy for the North West but this exciting project will contribute to creating a vibrant sporting culture within our local communities".
