Winter Indoor Bowling League

If you like bowls then head to Birchwood Tennis and Leisure Complex and join the ‘Warrington Indoor Long Mat Bowling League!’

The league officially launched on Monday 10th October as an alternative to crown green bowling which takes a weather break over the winter period and is the first long mat club in the town.Cllr Kate Hannon, (Lab, Orford), executive board member for leisure, community and culture at the council opened the league by bowling the first bowl this week.

Cllr Hannon said: “I know that bowlers are passionate about their sport and probably find the winter months frustrating when they can’t play. This new partnership will mean that they can now bowl all year round, keep active and also enjoy the social side at the same time.

Leisure Warrington are making best use of the facilities in Birchwood in delivering another sporting opportunity to a totally different group of users.”Bowling takes place twice a week on a Monday afternoon and a Friday evening but given the immediate demand this may increase in the near future. Both teams and individuals welcome, contact John Kirkham on 01925 764772 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  for more information.

Nordic Walking

Come and Try......  Nordic Walking

The Reach for Health Team are running Nordic Walking sessions from Birchwood Leisure & Tennis Complex. The sessions take place Tuesdays 10am and last for approximately one hour. The sessions cost £2.

Nordic walking use poles in order to add two major benefits to walking:
1: The use of poles means the upper body muscles are used as well as the legs (50% more calories burned)
2: The poles help propel the walker along - this means he/she works harder than usual yet support given by the poles makes it feel easier!
